2006 Campaign to Re-Elect Jose “Joe” Esteves for Mayor

 Dear Friend/Campaigner,

You’re invited to our 2006 Mayoral Re-election Campaign Kick-Off on Sunday, July 23 at Adobe Higuera Park on N. Park Victoria in Milpitas.  We’ll have refreshments from 3pm until 7pm.  It’ll be a time to say hello, get involved in the campaign, meet old friends and supporters, and meet new people and new supporters.

As your Mayor for the past 31/2 years, I have a vision for Milpitas and my vision for Milpitas is very simple:

  • An ethical City government that works hard for the citizens of Milpitas
  • A fiscally responsible and realistic City budget that balances revenue and expenses without penalizing our future
  • A strong and supportive City relationship to our children, our schools, and the Milpitas Unified School District
  • A great community quality of life for our families—safe, clean, green
  • Planned growth that maintains our City’s character while meeting the needs of the community.

My vision doesn’t include special interests.  I want to put the Milpitas City Council back under the control of the people of Milpitas and I need your help to push the special interest groups out of City Hall.  Because I’ve not had a majority to work with on the City Council, I’ve not been able to move my vision forward as fast as you and I might like.  We have the new Library on Main Street under construction, and we’re meeting some of our basic commitments to seniors, the schools, and community services.  But we’re not doing enough!  I know you’re not happy with a majority of the City Council and neither am I.  We need to work together to put a majority on the City Council that shares our vision for this great city.

In addition, I am deeply concerned that the majority of the City Council has virtually eliminated the ethics program so many of us worked to establish, they have refused to make the tough budget decisions necessary to keeping our City’s finances balanced, and they have tied themselves closely to developers and special interest groups who want to change how Milpitas will grow and to develop our beautiful hillsides.

This will be a tough election, but, with your support, we shall prevail and re-take control of the Council for the benefit of all Milpitas residents.  Susan and I look forward to seeing you at the Campaign Kick-Off on Sunday, July 23.

Please feel free to invite friends and neighbors to participate in this campaign kickoff—spread the word!  We ask that you call 408-263-1153 and leave your name and how many are coming.

Best Regards,
Jose Esteves
Mayor, City of Milpitas
